Biometric time clocks are designed to reduce (fingerprint readers) or eliminate (handpunch and facial recognition) buddy punching. A side benefit is that there are no supplies to buy or replace.  Fingerprint readers work marginally in some situations, HandPunch and facial ID systems work great.  The difference is in the software, and the companies behind them.
